Names and courtesy titles
Very often you need to specify names with abbreviations or including courtesy titles that themselves are also abbreviated.
Some examples:
Prof. dr. J. Gobelijn
However, LaTeX thinks the full stops in your description are the end of a sentence and therefore might include an extra degree of spacing after the full stop. You need to indicate that they are not.
Prof.~dr.~J.~Gobelijn
The difference often is small (it depends on your font configuration), but nonetheless significant.
